Data

What is a 13F filing?

A Form 13F is a quarterly report that institutional investment managers with over $100 million in U.S. equities must file with the SEC within 45 days of each quarter's end, disclosing what they hold. It's how the public learns what firms like Berkshire Hathaway and Bridgewater own.

Where does the data come from?

Directly from SEC EDGAR, parsed from the original filings. Whale's Nest is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the SEC.

How current is the data?

13F filings are quarterly, and the SEC gives managers 45 days after quarter-end to file. Whale's Nest syncs from SEC EDGAR nightly, so new filings appear within about a day of publication. 13F data is disclosure, not a live feed — no service can change that.

App

Is Whale's Nest really free?

Yes. A free account includes every tracked investor, their complete filing history, all position changes, AI summaries, and unlimited follows with email alerts. The only thing reserved for Pro is each investor's single most recent filing.

What does Pro add?

Pro ($9/month) unlocks each investor's latest 13F filing — the newest holdings, the newest position changes, and their AI summary. Everything else is already free.

Which investors can I track?

Over 300 managers curated by prominence and assets — Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway, Ray Dalio's Bridgewater, Bill Ackman's Pershing Square, Ken Griffin's Citadel, and the other names investors actually follow — together reporting over $45 trillion in 13F holdings.
